Polysomnography

Polysomnography

Polysomnography is a laryngological screening test detecting breathing disruptions. Although its results are not always perfectly accurate, it is important to note its value at the early diagnostic stages, as it can save many patients’ lives.

Polysomnography test is used to record changes in breathing parameters during sleep. These are mostly: air flow, chest movements, abdomen movements, blood oxidation, pulse, and position of the body during sleep.

Polysomnography test can be expanded by adding the analysis of:

  • EEG (electroencephalography)
  • EOG (electrooculography)
  • EMG (electromyography)
  • thermistor

If a breathing disruption is discovered during the polysomnography test, it is recommended to expand the diagnostic process by performing a fiberoptic examination.
